Golden Guide Gets The Grey Vote
Stockton’s go-getting Grans and Grandads have given the thumbs up to a guide listing the services available on their doorstep.
The “Golden Guide – Stockton for Over 60s” was funded by Age Concern Teesside with a Community Legal Services grant, and was produced by Durham-based community publication specialists, Clever Clogs Publishing.
It contains information on health and wellbeing, money matters and consumer rights, housing and care
- and an out and about section.
Available free to older residents and professionals working with this age group, the booklet acknowledges that many over 60s are living longer, healthier and more active lives than earlier generations.
“We – and our partners – were very conscious of making the guide comprehensive and easy to use without being patronising so we went out and showed some older people the draft version and asked them for feedback” explained Editor, Heather Alabaster.
“They loved the design and contents of the early edition,” she added, “and were even scribbling down information from the draft and asking us to hurry up and get it finished!”
Mark Tomlinson of Age Concern Teesside added: “The Golden Guide is a great way to reach out to older people and let them know what’s available locally. We’re very impressed by what Clever Clogs has come up with and think this directory will be really popular with the borough’s older population and with the agencies working with them.”
Copies are available from libraries, community centres, advice and support agencies and from health and care workers.
