Golden Guide gets bigger and better as demand grows

In response to overwhelming demand from all over Northumberland, a brand new third edition of the Golden Guide for Older People has been published. The guide has become so popular with older residents and their carers across the county that there has been a waiting list for six months whilst fund-raising drummed up enough to produce a new edition.

The chunky free guide, produced by community information specialists Clever Clogs Publishing in partnership with Age Concern Northumberland, Northumberland County Council and Northumberland Care Trust, is packed with facts and tips on money, health, care, leisure activities and your home, to help people find out who can help them locally and how to get in touch. Previous editions have proved so popular that a total of ten thousand copies were snapped up within a matter of months after launch.

Editor Heather Alabaster says “The Golden Guide is going from strength to strength. Local MPs, companies, charities and voluntary organisations have again generously sponsored pages within the guide, and we are delighted that Northumberland County Council and the Care Trust – have continued to back it too, so that their Care Managers can have copies to use themselves and to pass on to older clients.”

Daljit Lally, Executive Director of Adult Care, at Northumberland Care Trust says “New this time is a special supplement on Falls Prevention – with tips on ways to avoid falls, which can be so disastrous for an older person living alone, as well as advice on what to do if it happens. We are pleased to see more information on local health support groups and on subjects such as Bereavement and Domestic Violence too”

Marie McWilliams, Campaigns Manager for Age Concern Northumberland adds “It was important to expand our Money Matters section as well – we hope that readers will be able to find local advice to help with any money worries they might have”
